Bachelor of Arts in Buddhist Studies at Patan Multiple Campus
Background
Patan Multi-campus, Department of History introduced Buddhist Studies as a major subject at the undergraduate level in the year 2004. After that, the department was named as the Department of History and Buddhist Studies. Currently, Buddhist Studies offers a four-year Bachelor's degree program. The curriculum offers the following AREAS of study: Buddha's teachings, Buddhist history, philosophy, literature, art, architecture, archaeology, culture, and research methodology. Students will develop a broad knowledge of Buddhist history, philosophy, art, architectural development, Buddhist tradition, and research.
Aims

1. To acquaint students with the history of Buddha and Buddhism, its sources, major events of Buddha's time and the historical significance of Buddhist sites in Nepal.
2. To provide knowledge on Buddhist historical sites, including mythology and sacred perceptions, followed by religious activities in Nepal.
3. To gain a current situation of the Buddhist situation in Nepal.
4. To introduce students to the origin and development of Pali and Sanskrit Buddhist literature, as well as selected scriptures from Pali and Sanskrit literary sources.
5. To provide knowledge on Buddhist Philosophy with the importance of ethical values and meditation in Buddhist practice.
6. To impart elementary knowledge of Buddhist art, architecture, and archaeological forms, emphasizing the main features developed during different historical periods.
7. To impart introductory knowledge on three Buddhist traditions: Buddhist tradition in Nepal mandala, Buddhist tradition in northern Nepal and Theravada Buddhist tradition in Nepal, along with their cultural practices.
8. To enable students to carry out academic research and writing in the fields of history, culture, religion, philosophy, art, and applied branches of Buddhism, as well as other academic studies 

Scope
A bachelor level programme in Buddhist studies is a multidisciplinary field that encompasses a wide range of topics related to Buddhism, its history, philosophy, literature, art, and cultural impact. The scope of Buddhist studies is broad and can include: 

1. Research: Able to conduct research on Buddhist history, culture, archaeology, art, architecture, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, theology, philosophy, and the impact of Buddhism on the cultures and societies where it has been practiced. 
2. Influenced:  Art, architecture, rituals, and other cultural expressions are influenced by Buddhism. 
3. Theoretical and Practical Knowledge: Studies on meditation, its techniques and examination of the psychological aspects of Buddhist teachings, meditation practices, and their effects on mental well-being. 
4. Social and Ethical Studies: Exploration of Buddhist ethics, social teachings, and their implications for individual and collective behavior. This may involve studying how Buddhist principles have influenced societal norms and values.
5. Participant: Participation in discussions and dialogues between Buddhists and followers of other religious traditions. Teaching and research in academic institutions or engagement in Buddhist communities as religious leaders, teachers, or practitioners.

Eligibility 
Higher Secondary (+2), or equivalent qualification in any subject. 
Language of instruction
All lectures will be in the national language. The notes of all subjects will be provided in English and Nepali. The exam will be conducted in Nepali and English language.
Facility Scholarship
Scholarships will be provided for the students, who attend classes 80% of the major subject of Buddhist studies in Patan Multiple Campus from Buddhist institutes every year. One of the students will get talented award, who has gained the highest marks among the students every year.
Eligibility for Scholarships:
Students are eligible for scholarships if they attend 80% of the major subject classes in Buddhist studies at Patan Multiple Campus. Scholarships are provided annually and handed over by Buddhist Institute.
Talent Award:
One student who achieves the highest marks among their peers will receive a talent award each year and handed over by Bodhijnana Mahasthavir in memory of Venerable Jnanapurnik Mahastavir.
